Pre-Prep Reflections Week 26 April 2025
Dear parents,
Despite the slightly shorter week, it has been no less busy, with a school council meeting on Monday, Eid and Easter assemblies from Miss Rose and Ms Simpson, and even a (planned) fire drill yesterday morning! The children did a brilliant job, evacuating quickly and calmly in 1 minute and 30 seconds.
Year 2 trip
On Tuesday, as part of their history topic on toys from the past, Year 2 visited Sidmouth Toy Museum. They enjoyed learning about and handling a range of toys, including a typewriter (!) and a Victorian projector, as well as spending time exploring artefacts around the museum. Thank you to Ms Richards, Mrs Titchin, Mr Heath and Ms AJ for accompanying them.
Easter theme day
Today we have been enjoying a special Easter theme day for the end of term. We started the day with a special assembly led by Mr & Mrs Hawkins (parents of Charlotte in Year 1) who talked about their work at Vets4Pets in Newton Abbot. The children were then vertically grouped in their four houses to take part in a range of fun workshops. These included a spring art workshop with Mrs Goodwill, learning about the Easter story with Mrs Rickard, creating Easter headbands with Mrs Dray, and of course the all-important Easter egg hunt at Forest School with Mrs Smyth! At the end of the day, all children were given an Easter egg to take home from the staff. Thanks to Mrs Lawrence-Jones for organising this.
Easter assembly
We finished the day with a special Easter assembly this afternoon. It was lovely to see so many parents and visitors in the hall. We were treated to a range of Easter-themed songs, poems and artwork from all classes. Once again, the children performed brilliantly, radiating joy and confidence, and making us all so proud. Thanks to Ms Richards and the team for putting on this Easter miracle at the end of a busy term when we are all running on coffee and mini eggs! We hope you enjoyed it.
Helpful Heron sculpture
You may have noticed a man wielding a chainsaw near the front gates on your way out this afternoon. This was Brendan Rawlings from Zen Wood Design who has been busy designing and making a heron sculpture to be mounted on the tree stump there. This ‘helpful heron’, soon to be surrounded by a patch of colourful wildflowers, will be the first thing to greet visitors to our school and we hope it will remain there for many years to come. I will post some photos online when it is finished.
We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Wednesday 23 April for the start of the summer term. All after school clubs will be running from this date onwards. Wishing you all a restful and relaxing break.
