Pre-Prep Reflections 1 May 2026
Dear parents,
Summer is finally here and everyone has been enjoying the gorgeous weather this week. A huge well done to Mrs Van, Head of Junior School, for completing the London Marathon on Sunday – and for being fresh as a daisy on the junior school gate on Monday morning! The children were thrilled to see her medal and some video clips when she came over on Tuesday, and all week I have overheard children saying, “Let’s pretend we’re running a marathon!” in the playground, so she has clearly inspired them. My favourite question came from a Year 1 child who, after hearing about the record-breaking sub-two-hour time asked, “Did she come second?”
Sponsored Bounce
Thank you for your incredible support with our recent Sponsored Bounce event. We have already collected over £1500 for the NSPCC and the money keeps coming in! I know that Mrs Van has been so touched by your support and she has written a special message further down this newsletter. Please note that the deadline for returning sponsorship forms and money is Friday 8 May. I look forward to sharing the grand total with you then.
Class Reps meeting
Thank you to the class reps for meeting with me on Monday morning. I am pleased to say that the feedback from parents was largely positive and there were a number of useful suggestions that we are looking into to make life easier for everyone. If you are interested in being a class rep next year, please do speak to me or one of the current reps about what the role involves. They are Lucy Williamson (Nursery), Laura Holmes (Reception), Jenny Cotton (Year 1) and Mike Richards (Year 2).
Sun safety reminder
Now that the warmer weather is with us, please may I remind parents that it is helpful for children to come to school with sun cream already applied. Children are welcome to bring their own sun cream in, should they need to top-up, but they need to be able to apply this themselves and we therefore recommend the roll-on products. All children should also have a named sun hat in school to wear outside, and they are welcome to wear sunglasses. As the children are removing their jumpers more frequently, please double-check that these are named, so that we can return them to the right owner.
School Dog of the Year
Some exciting news, hot off the press! We recently entered Ruffles for the UK School Dog of the Year Award and our entry has been ‘Highly Commended’. Organised by the National School Dog Alliance, the judges said, “We were struck by the wonderful work taking place in your school and by the clear care, commitment and affection shown by both children and staff for your dog.” Ruffles and I have been invited to attend an online celebration event in June, and I am hoping some of the children will be able to join us too.
Next week
A reminder that the school is closed on Monday for the Bank Holiday. Next Thursday evening, Ruffles and I will be at Exeter School for their summer open evening, which starts at 5.30pm. Please do come and say hello if you are coming along for a tour.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend and look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Tuesday.
