Junior School

The Arts Overview

We strongly believe that a diverse and rich cultural diet is integral to personal growth therefore the school calendar bursts at the seams with opportunities in the arts.

We have an excellent team of staff that delivers high-quality teaching of music, both in the classroom and outside with individual instrumental and voice lessons. Musical highlights are the annual Christmas Carol Concert and Spring Concert, involving the entire junior school community.

The junior school puts on drama productions and informal music concerts throughout the year enabling pupils of all ages and abilities get the chance to perform both on and off the stage. Upper Two (Year 6) pupils enjoy their end of year performance, a real celebration of their time at Exeter Junior School.

Pupils are given the opportunity to see the very best of local theatre. Visiting theatre groups come to the junior school to perform both for and with the pupils.

With the art classroom in junior school and the opportunity to use the studios on campus too, there are many spaces available to work with different media. Junior school pupils work in clay, photography, print-making to name just a few.

Use of different materials and programmes continues into our design and technology programme with the integration of STEAM subjects across the curriculum.
