Junior Reflections Week 29 2024

Dear parents,

What a difference a week makes, the weather has finally taken a turn for the better and it certainly feels like summer has arrived.

Taster Day

On Tuesday we welcomed prospective children to the school for a taster day and, as always, our pupils really looked after them and certainly rose to the occasion of promoting several of our virtues with their kindness and welcoming all the children to our school. A lot of happy, smiley children left after their visit.

Curriculum

It was lovely to get out and about and watch our U11 and U10 pupils playing cricket on Wednesday against Blundell’s – over the years my cricket knowledge has certainly improved, and a lot of wickets were taken along with some outstanding batting across the teams. There were some very close scores, and I am very much looking forward to more matches in the sun. I popped into Form One history on Tuesday afternoon and my word, their recall of the Romans and Celts was amazing, and I didn’t have enough time to ask everyone who had their hand up but I was super impressed with their enthusiasm and learning. Well done Form One.

Events

Thursday evening saw the school buzzing with prospective parents and their families for our summer open evening. It was a wonderful event with the school looking outstanding. As always, our tour guides sold the school fantastically and were so enthusiastic to share the experiences of their time at the junior school; they really are such a good advert for the school and I had so many compliments when the tours finished! Thank you for allowing your children to help with these events; it wouldn’t work without them, and they really are a credit to you and the school. Next week we have a stall at the Devon County Show at stand 26, Avenue A. If you are visiting, please do pop over and say hello. I will be there on the Saturday and would love to see you. A reminder also that we will be holding our junior school speech day on Monday 8 July so please ensure the date is in your diary (more details will be sent in due course).

Report cards

Finally, you will be receiving a report card showing current attitudes to learning and attainment grades for your child, on Monday 13 May. Full written end of year reports will also be produced, and you will receive these a few days before the end of the school year in July.

Enjoy the sun this weekend.

Play Olympics taster event

Your children always tell us how much they enjoy the extra curricular activities available to them here at Exeter Junior School. So we thought we would offer this to prospective families to try. If you know of any friends considering the school for their child, please share this event with them and we’ll look forward to sharing the fun with them on Saturday 6 July!

Our pupils have shone in GCSEs, with 23% of all grades being grade 9. Furthermore, 47% of grades awarded were a grade 8 or 9. Acting Head of Exeter School, Mr Graham Bone said: “As I take up the role of Acting Head, it is a privilege to share in the celebration of these fantastic results. Our Year 11 pupils have again shown themselves to be hard-working, diligent Exonians who have made the most of our outstanding teaching, top quality pastoral care, and the wide range of opportunities that Exeter School offers. We are delighted with their GCSE grades: with almost a quarter of results at the top grade of 9 and 47% at the top two grades, there is much to be proud of, and I want to thank all our staff, especially our dedicated teachers, in helping our pupils achieve these excellent outcomes." #gcseresults2025 #resultsday #sixthformlife #endofyear11 #school #exams #celebrate #schoolexams #talkeducation #goodschoolsguide

Congratulations to Phoebe, who has brilliantly shown how it’s possible to balance the wide range of opportunities on offer at Exeter School while aiming high for the future. With A*s in physics, chemistry, maths and further maths, she is now off to Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge to read Physical Natural Sciences. Phoebe is excited to carry on with the activities that enriched her school years and is already exploring both the choral society and netball teams at Cambridge. We’re so proud of our pupils' achievements this year. You can explore our latest academic results on our website and see what makes our school such a special place to learn.
