Junior Reflections Week 9 November 2024
Dear parents,
Remembrance service
Another week has flown past, and it is really starting to feel autumnal now. Monday was Remembrance Day and once again the whole school gathered to pay their respects and remember all those who gave their lives and are still doing so to protect us. The junior school, as always behaved impeccably and I must give a special mention to Theo (U2) who read ‘In Flanders Fields in front of the whole school; simply brilliant.

Anti-bullying week
It has been anti-bullying week this week and as part of this, all pupils arrived in school wearing a variety of different socks to celebrate our differences. We know that bullying can take many different forms, and the pupils will tell you that one thing I ask of all our pupils is to be kind. Kindness is free but my word it can make someone feel a million dollars and as I shared with lower school whilst listening to Aretha Franklins’ RESPECT, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This subject is not just spoken about this week but is very much woven into all that we do, both in and outside the classroom.

ISI inspection
On Tuesday we welcomed ISI for a routine inspection; my thanks to you all for taking the time to complete the parent survey. As always, your children were extremely welcoming and I was immensely proud of every one of them, and a big thank you to all the staff who I think will need a rest this weekend.
Informal concert
On Wednesday, I had the privilege to listen to the informal string concert and I was blown away by the talent that was on show. I was so proud of how many of the performers were in the junior school and very much enjoyed every performance. Opportunities like these are so important to build confidence and I am very much looking forward to the next one in couple of weeks’ time.
Sports
This week saw the first squash fixture of the year, against St Peters at the Golf and Country Club. The girls and boys took part in multiple matches and had a wonderful experience. We also had a ‘Matchday Wednesday’ this week against St Peter’s Prep and Blundell’s and played some extremely competitive matches in both hockey and rugby. Today, I am looking forward to popping down and watching some rugby against Trinity, where the pupils will be playing a mixture of contact and non-contact matches; certainly a lovely day for it.
School council
It was the school council meeting this morning, and we have decided on the following charities to support this year: The Hygiene Bank, Marie Curie, and The Blue Cross. Mrs Buckingham was our guest speaker. She shared with the pupils the workings of the playground and listened to discussions about how we can use the new astro behind the school and to answer any questions related to the playground.
Today, we had non-uniform day in aid of Children in Need for whom we raised a total of £326.28 in junior school alone. Tomorrow, we are very much looking forward to welcoming prospective children to our Inspiring Minds taster morning; what a busy week it has been.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
