Junior Reflections Week 36 July 2024

Dear parents,

We are very nearly at the end of term and this will be my final newsletter of the academic year. It has been a truly wonderful year with so much taking place in and out of the classrooms and as I read through the reports it was really quite evident how much the pupils do – Exeter really is a busy and exciting school with opportunities for all. On the note of reports, your child’s end of term report will be available to access via MSP on Monday July 8.

Transition day

It was really lovely to welcome so many new pupils to the school on Thursday for transition day; all our pupils had a great afternoon welcoming new children to their classes and meeting their form tutor for next year. The Upper Two pupils headed off to senior school for their transition and there were a lot of smiles on their return.

Upper One B Estuary trip

Upper One B finally had their trip to the Exe Estuary which had been delayed due to the weather, lug worms were found, shells identified and a couple of other creatures; a lot of fun was had.

Gardening club party

Gardening Club had a special party on Thursday to pick their wares and to say thank you to Simon, Will, Tom and Connie, and of course Ms Barnes; there are a lot of green fingered pupils in the junior school who were thoroughly enjoying pulling the onions and carrots out the ground. What a feast!

National Schools’ Athletics finals

On Wednesday, four pupils participated in the national schools’ athletics finals in the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The pupils qualified following the Mount Kelly Athletics meet and had the chance to complete amongst the best athletes in the country. Joshua and Scarlett competed in the high jump, Arthur in the 800m and Rory in the 200m. The pupils completed valiantly, and Mr Dutch was extremely proud of you all; well done.

Speech day

I look forward to seeing many of you at Speech Day on Monday, where we will be celebrating all that has taken place this year. What a year it has been and it does seem hard to believe that we are nearly at the end.

Alice The Musical

We’re pleased to bring you the video recordings of our three wonderful plays in case any of you missed your child’s performance. We hope you enjoy them.

Goodbyes

Today in Chapel we said farewell to Ms Barnes, as she will be heading off on a music tour with the senior school on Tuesday. Ms Barnes has been with us for 14 years and has been a truly inspirational teacher who has impacted so many pupils’ lives both in the classroom and out, always going above and beyond for the pupils. We will say goodbye to Mrs Pettet and Mr Guy next week. I am sure you all agree Mrs Pettet saved the day way back in September and has been a wonderful L2B form tutor and Mr Guy has been simply outstanding as our gap year student. We wish all our leavers, both pupils and staff, the very best of luck and most importantly, we do hope that you all come back and visit us.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Lost property

We will be doing a complete clear out of the lost property room – the deadline for parents and pupils to claim/search/look for their lost items will be Friday 23 August 2024. After this date, all items will either be thrown away or donated to charity and we will not be able to retrieve them.

Mrs Glanville, our pastoral assistant, is taking part in the Coast to Coast walking challenge across Devon - a non-stop, 24-hour trek from Westward Ho!, all the way to Paignton, over Dartmoor! As if this doesn't sound crazy enough, she will still be doing a full day's work beforehand on Friday 19 June 😮 So, her realistic goal is to manage at least 59 miles out of the 68 over 24 hours.

The aim of the walk is to raise vital funds for @thedevonclinic, a charity providing affordable counselling and mental health support for people who need help but can't always afford it.

Please donate, share, and be part of this journey for an important cause via the link in our Linktree in our bio
