Junior Reflections Week 26 2024

Last week we posted about the amazing opportunities available to our RAF cadets at Exeter School. We`ve heard from Tom, who has just received A Level results this summer, recounting his experience last week.

"I was lucky enough to spend just over a week at RAF Little Rissington with 612 VGS participating in a gliding scholarship which I applied for through the RAF section of the CCF. The weather was perfect allowing me to be in the air for all 7 flying days. Throughout the week I learnt from a team of highly experienced instructors both in the classroom and in the air everything I needed to achieve solo standard. I put this into practice on the penultimate day completing a 6 minute circuit without an instructor in the aircraft with me. Not only was I in a beautiful area with amazing aerial views of the Cotswolds but also I was well looked after with comfortable accommodation and lots of great food. It was certainly a week that I will never forget and I am very thankful to Dr Smale for helping me through the application process."

A couple of weeks ago, eight cadets spent the day with @626vgs (Volunteer Gliding Squadron) at Predannack airfield in Cornwall.

They completed the safety brief and emergency training then headed out to the airfield where they were hands on through the day.

The cadets helped to retrieve, launch and manoeuvre the Viking gliders and they all got to experience the thrill of the launch and flight.

Look at all these smiles as our community came together for a summer barbecue to mark Independence Day last month 😎

We`ve really missed seeing everyone on site over the summer and are very much looking forward to coming together again, greeting our new pupils next week, then seeing everybody on Monday 8 Sept. Get those last barbecues in at home while you can... but we bet you won`t have a hawk on hand to keep the seagulls at bay! 🌞

It`s World Photography Week so we got in touch with Upper Sixth pupil Alex to see if he had anything in his portfolio that he didn`t mind sharing. We`ve been so impressed by these that we`re inviting him to take some photos around school with us in the coming weeks.
