Pre-Prep Reflections Week 32 June 2025
Dear parents,
I hope you all had a great half term. A very warm welcome to Miss Mulchrone who joined us this week in the Nursery to cover Mrs Wannell’s maternity leave – very timely, as you will see in the article below! The final half of the summer term is always a busy and exciting one, with emotions running high for many of our children, as they prepare for the transition to their next class. My advice is to buckle up, enjoy the ride and don’t forget to read your Friday newsletters…
INSET day
On Monday, we had our final staff INSET day of the year over at Exeter School. These days are rare and valuable opportunities for the whole staff to be together, and we were able to spend some time reflecting strategically on what we want our approach to learning and teaching to be across the pre-prep, junior and senior schools. As well as some health and safety training, we enjoyed a fascinating talk from David Brown, Head of Weston Green School in Surrey, on his ‘quiet revolution’. This is focused on reminding schools that an estimated 40% of pupils are on the introverted spectrum and have a great deal to offer and celebrate.
Theatre trip
The highlight of the week was our whole school theatre trip on Wednesday morning. We went to see The Koala Who Could at the Palace Theatre in Paignton. The children were very excited to travel by coach and minibus, and they behaved extremely well throughout the trip. Sadly, we were unable to have a picnic lunch when we got back to school, as it was raining, but we all enjoyed our packed lunches in the hall.
Year 2 swimming
A reminder that the group of children who were swimming before half term have one final lesson with Mr Dutch next Monday, before the groups change over again for the last 4 weeks of term. The dates for the second group’s sessions are 16, 23, 30 June and 7 July. Apologies for the typo in the original letter which listed one of these dates incorrectly.
Sweetie bags
Thank you for all the amazing sweetie bags we have had back this week. They all looked brilliant on display in the library area and are ready to be sold on our stall at the Family Society Summer Fete tomorrow from 1pm. Well done to all the children for adding such unique and imaginative decorations to their sweetie bags. It was very difficult for the judges to choose the winning designs. Congratulations to Bonnie (Nursery), Nikola (Reception), Bea (Year 1) and Martha (Year 2) who were each awarded a prize in assembly today.
Please note that I will be out of school for a conference in London on Tuesday. Have a lovely weekend and hope to see you at the summer fete tomorrow.
