Success at the RS Feva National Championships

Posted: 3rd June 2025

Exeter School pupils, Berenice, Elliot (both Middle Fifth) and William (Lower Fifth) sailed in the RS Feva National Championships in Dalgety Bay, Scotland during the May half term. Berenice helmed with her partner and Will (helm) and Elliot (crew) sailed together.

Conditions were extremely challenging, with strong 5m tides and very high winds (gusting to 30 knots). However, all three sailors embraced the challenge and had an excellent event.

Sailing started on Saturday with the qualifying rounds but had to be paused on Sunday due to dangerous conditions, before continuing on the Monday and Tuesday. All three Exeter School sailors were part of Silver fleet, which comprised of 51 boats.

Berenice and her crew had an excellent start. After winning a race and leading Silver fleet into the final day of racing, they had a challenging last day and, at the end of the championships, finished 7th (2nd place of the all-female teams) in their class.

Will and Elliot also had a very good start, finishing the first day in 3rd place. As the racing moved into the second day and the conditions became more challenging, their sailing improved, and they demonstrated fast-paced tactical racing in very wild Scottish conditions to maintain their position and finish the event in an excellent 3rd place in their class.

Well done to all three of our pupils on a very successful championships.
