Over six days this half-term, pupils from the middle and upper school studying classical subjects explored the island of Sicily. Our classics trip to Sicily took pupils from one end of the island to the other, visiting some of the most remarkable ancient sites in the Mediterranean.
Syracuse and Mount Etna in Eastern Sicily
The group started at the eastern end of the island with a visit to Syracuse, the home town of Archimedes. Pupils then explored Mount Etna and her ancient lava flows.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Moving west, pupils visited two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Roman palace at Piazza Armerina and the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento.
Ancient Ruins in the Far West
The trip ended in the far west of the island, where pupils visited the picturesque ruins at Selinunte and Segesta before flying home from Palermo.
Wonderful Ambassadors on Our Classics Trip to Sicily
Our pupils were wonderful ambassadors throughout. They engaged really well with the history and culture of the island and, particularly, the pizzas and gelato!
