Kusama Pumpkin Art Lights Up Our Corridor

Posted: 20th October 2026

Our upper school Art Club has been busy creating a vibrant collection of Kusama pumpkin art. Taking inspiration from the wonderfully imaginative artist Yayoi Kusama, the pupils have produced a series of large-scale pumpkin paintings full of colour, pattern and personality.

Who Is Yayoi Kusama?

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist celebrated for her polka dots, bold colours and use of repetition. Pumpkins are one of her best-loved subjects, and her dotted pumpkins are recognised all over the world. Her playful, instantly recognisable style makes her a perfect source of inspiration for young artists.

Creating Bold and Colourful Pumpkin

The pupils used bold acrylic paints, bright colours and playful patterns to bring their pumpkins to life. Each artist embraced Kusama’s distinctive style and her love of repeating shapes, transforming a simple pumpkin into an eye-catching work of art.

The results are wonderfully varied. Every pumpkin reflects the individual ideas and creativity of the pupil who painted it, and together they make a striking collection.

Perfectly Imperfect Pumpkin Art

What makes these pumpkins so special is their perfectly imperfect charm. Rather than aiming for flawless finishes, the pupils focused on expression, experimentation and fun, just as Kusama’s own work invites us to do.

Brightening Up Our Corridor

The finished Kusama pumpkin art now lines our corridor, bringing a wonderful burst of colour, creativity and artistic flair to the school. Next time you visit, look out for these fabulous pumpkins as you walk by.

Congratulations to everyone in our upper school Art Club on such a brilliant project!
