Informal Vocal Concert – 21 January 2026

Posted: 23rd January 2026

The weather was wild and unpleasant outside, but in many ways this made coming into the Chapel to hear the Informal Vocal Concert on Wednesday all the more welcoming and enjoyable.

Most of the audience were keen to accept a cup of tea as they settled to hear a full programme of singers – more than 20 – from across most year groups of the junior and senior school.

The Chapel has a wonderful acoustic for vocal music, with many of the performers filling the space with some accomplished technique and projection.

The repertoire was an eclectic mix, including songs from the shows such as Lucky to be me, Somewhere, If I were a bell, Wouldn’t it be lovely, My favourite things and Stars, to classical works including Panis Angelicus by Franck, Quilter’s Weep you no more sad tears and Fauré’s Après un rêve.

The impressive aria Una donna a quindici anni from Mozart’s opera Cosi fan tutte featured, along with Disney and film including Menken’s Whole New World and Hushabye Mountain, and jazz standard Moon River.

The singers were accompanied by teachers Mrs. Northcott, Miss Williams and Mr Daldorph, and should all be congratulated for bringing sunshine to a very rainy day.
