Earlier this month, Lower Fifth (Year 9) pupils welcomed Chonyi, a Buddhist nun from the Kadampa Meditation Centre in Exeter, into school. Chonyi spent two weeks working with Lower Fifth classes as part of their study of Buddhism, sharing her experiences and answering pupils’ thoughtful questions.
Her visits were very well received, with pupils engaging fully in discussions and gaining valuable insight into Buddhist beliefs and practice. Two pupils reflected on the experience:
“Meeting the Buddhist monk, Chonyi, was a really eye-opening experience. She was so calm, and you could honestly feel that peaceful energy coming off her. The way she spoke made everything easy to understand, and it just made the whole room feel more relaxed. It’s one of those experiences that sticks with you.”
“This was a lovely religious studies lesson, gaining information from a true Buddhist and seeing their point of view is fascinating. Chonyi was a very gentle and kind person who was also great at explaining, she seemed to understand her religion inside out. She answered all our questions with great depth which was interesting for all of us to hear. Massive thanks to Chonyi for her amazing presentation”
