Exeter School is celebrating outstanding hockey success this summer. Exeter School has selected a talented group of pupils to represent West Panthers at the South West’s most competitive tournaments. Competing against strong sides from Cheltenham, Bournemouth, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Avon, our pupils have shown real skill and determination. They have displayed team spirit, bringing home silverware, individual honours and unforgettable experiences along the way.
U14 Mercia Cup: Silver, Gold and a Star Goalkeeper
Henry, Benjamin, Zach, Eva and Ella flew the flag for Exeter School at the U14 Mercia Cup. The boys’ team battled hard and finished second overall. The girls’ team finished fourth in the main competition before bouncing back to win the indoor tournament outright.
Henry capped off a weekend by earning the Goalkeeper of the Tournament title, a fantastic achievement reflecting his consistent performances. Congratulations, Henry!
UK Lions U13 Regional Hockey Championship
Rising Year 8 pupil Barnaby earned his place in the West Panthers Trophy team and travelled to Nottingham in June to compete in the UK Lions U13 Regional Hockey Championship. It proved to be a tough and challenging weekend, but a brilliant experience for everyone involved.
Freddie and Wilfred, fellow Exeter School pupils, joined Barnaby in the Trophy team. Meanwhile, Arthur represented the Cup team. Competing at this level against some of the country’s strongest young players is no small feat. All four pupils should be proud of how they represented both West Panthers and Exeter School.
U12 Mercia Cup: Champions at Malvern College
The summer’s hockey highlights continued at Malvern College, where Barnaby Brough returned to action — this time as captain of the West Panthers U12 boys’ side. Leading from the front, Barnaby guided his team to the final, beating Cambridge Hockey Club in the semi-final before a dominant 3–0 victory over Repton Hockey Club sealed the title.
It was a tournament win to remember, and Barnaby’s captaincy played a key role in the team’s success.
Benji Taylor also represented West Panthers at the tournament, while Ruby, Flo and Honor flew the flag for Exeter School in the girls’ competition, gaining valuable experience against top opposition.
A Proud Moment for Exeter School
Selection for West Panthers is a real mark of talent and hard work, and being chosen to compete at regional and national level is an outstanding achievement for any young hockey player. These results are a true testament to the dedication, skill and team spirit our pupils bring to the sport — both on the pitch and off it.
