Exploring British business: A two-day adventure

Posted: 17th December 2025

On Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 December, the Business Studies Department, in collaboration with the Design and Technology Department, embarked on an exciting two-day trip to explore some of Britain’s most iconic businesses and engineering marvels.

The journey began at the Morgan Motor Company, where students toured the 115-year-old factory renowned for its classic, hand-crafted cars. They witnessed first-hand the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into producing these luxury vehicles—a true celebration of traditional skills and bespoke design.

Next, the group headed to Cadbury World, where they enjoyed an insightful talk on marketing strategies. Students learned how Cadbury promotes its products globally and discovered how social media is becoming an increasingly powerful tool for reaching customers in today’s digital age. To round off the day, everyone enjoyed a fun evening of ten-pin bowling, providing the perfect opportunity to relax and bond after a day of learning and exploration.

The second day began with a visit to the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull, home to one of the most advanced automotive production lines in the UK. Students were amazed by the scale of the site and gained valuable insights into capital-intensive production techniques—a striking contrast to the traditional craftsmanship they had seen at Morgan.

In the afternoon, the group explored the Concorde Museum, where they learned about the technical brilliance behind the supersonic aircraft. This visit sparked discussions about innovation and risk, as students considered how such engineering excellence contrasted with the commercial challenges that ultimately led to the project’s failure.

To finish the trip on a creative note, students took part in a hands-on activity: designing and launching paper rockets. This fun challenge encouraged teamwork and problem-solving, rounding off two days of learning with energy and excitement.

This trip offered students a unique opportunity to see theory in action, gain real-world insights, and appreciate the creativity and innovation behind some of Britain’s most celebrated brands and engineering achievements.
