Dear parents,
We have reached the penultimate week before we break up for half term, and it really feels as though autumn has arrived. Thank you for ensuring that items of clothing are named; we are currently seeing a rather large amount of lost property and, when items are labelled, they have a much higher chance of being reunited with their owners. We are also encouraging the pupils to ensure that they put their clothes back in their bags after changing, rather than catapulting them across the changing rooms!
Our assemblies this week in the junior school focused on the Rule of Law. Rev Close led a brilliant assembly entitled Rules for Life, where kindness and telling the truth were high on the agenda. On Monday, our House Captains also led assemblies, confidently speaking in front of their peers and sharing the first merit totals of the year, always a highlight accompanied by plenty of drum rolls and excitement. We also had our buddy joke telling session which started on the playground and lasted all day… there were some absolute crackers and only a couple where I had to stop them before the end!
This week, children across the junior school took part in the NSPCC’s Speak Out. Stay Safe. assemblies. These engaging, age-appropriate sessions helped pupils understand the importance of staying safe, recognising trusted adults who can help them, and having the confidence to speak up if they are worried about themselves or someone else. The children listened thoughtfully and contributed maturely to discussions about who they could talk to if they had a worry or concern, and how they can look out for others. The assemblies provided an important opportunity to reinforce our safeguarding messages and remind children that help and support are always available when they need them.
Today, I am accompanying our U11 girls to Bryanston for the IAPS Hockey Festival and will be enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines. I look forward to sharing news of their exploits and successes next week.
A reminder that scholarship applications are now open, with awards offered in art, drama, music and sport, and the deadline to apply is Friday 13 November. For current pupils applying, only one reference is needed. Please also note that once a scholarship has been awarded, there is no need to reapply each year. Full details and the application form are available on our website.
The final week before half term is nearly upon us and, in true Exeter Junior School style, we will not be slowing down. With a taster day for our Year 2 pupils from the Pre-Prep, the IAPS Boys’ Rugby Festival, and a range of other activities taking place, there is still plenty to look forward to before we enjoy a well-earned break.
Have a restful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you next week.
