Our Form One pupils have demonstrated how creativity, reflection and kindness can come together to make a real difference, raising an incredible £1,278.28 for the Exeter Oncology Department through a special fundraising initiative that began in the classroom.
Earlier this year, as part of their PSHE lessons, pupils in Form One explored emotions, memories and a sense of belonging by creating their own Heart Maps. The project encouraged each child to think carefully about the people, places and experiences that are most meaningful to them, using art as a way to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and personal way.
As they worked on their Heart Maps, each pupil selected colours to represent different emotions, reflecting on how those feelings connect to places, memories and important moments in their lives. Through this thoughtful process, they considered not only what makes them who they are, but also the people and experiences that have shaped them.
Using watercolours and carefully chosen illustrations, every pupil created an individual piece of artwork that reflected their own unique story. Each Heart Map was distinctive, celebrating the individuality of every child while highlighting the shared experiences that bring our community together.
Once their artworks were complete, the centre of each Heart Map was cut out. These smaller hearts were then brought together to form a striking collaborative artwork, transforming many individual creations into one powerful piece. The finished display symbolised the strength, connection and shared values of our school community, demonstrating how individual contributions can come together to create something truly meaningful.
The collaborative Heart Map artworks were then raffled during Junior School Sports Day, giving families the opportunity to win a unique piece of artwork while supporting an important local cause. The raffle proved to be a wonderful way of extending the life of the project beyond the classroom, allowing the pupils’ creativity to make a positive impact within the wider community.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our pupils, parents, families and staff, the raffle raised an outstanding £1,278.28 for the Exeter Oncology Department. The support shown by our school community was remarkable, and every raffle ticket purchased helped turn this creative project into a meaningful act of fundraising.
This fantastic total is a testament to the compassion, creativity and community spirit shown throughout the project. What began as a reflective PSHE activity exploring emotions and self-expression evolved into something with a lasting impact, demonstrating how creativity can inspire generosity and bring people together for a shared purpose.
We are incredibly proud of our Form One pupils for approaching the project with such thoughtfulness and care, and for creating something so beautiful that has gone on to make a genuine difference. Their Heart Maps not only captured their individual stories but also became a symbol of kindness, collaboration and community.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket and supported this wonderful initiative. Your generosity has helped transform creativity into compassion, and together we have raised an incredible amount for the Exeter Oncology Department.
