Junior Reflections Week 13 2023

Dear parents,

I cannot believe that we have made it to the end of the year, and what a year it has been. This week has been one of turkey, sparkles, tinsel, carols, and a whole lot more, and it is always one of my favourite times of the year.

Disco night

The junior school disco was a huge hit! There were certainly some moves being shaken, and everyone got into the festive spirit. I would like to thank all the parents from the family society who helped make the evening work and also to Mr Wood, Miss Rose, and Rob from the Estates team for giving up their evening. These events wouldn’t run without such supportive staff. The disco raised £399.70, which is incredible.

A service of readings and carols

Tuesday saw our amazing service of readings and carols, and the festive spirit was certainly in full swing. The pupils sang their hearts out, as did the congregation, and an extra special mention goes to the readers and soloists, who were fantastic, especially in front of such a large audience. Please use this link to watch the performance.

Christmas jumper and hat day

Following that, we had our Christmas jumper and hat day on Wednesday, along with the most scrumptious Christmas dinner, crackers were pulled, laughter heard, and the most delicious Christmas pudding consumed. Thank you to catering team – what a feast we all had. This was then topped off by a visit to pre-prep to watch their nativity, which was stunning, and the pupils were amazing. Rev. Close held a moving Christmas service on Thursday, and the junior choir once again performed beautifully. I truly believe we have spread the love of Christmas this week, and I am sure everyone is ready for the holidays.

Form One parents morning

It was delightful to see the Form One pupils share their classroom with their parents during our open classroom afternoon. There were a lot of proud pupils and parents as I listened to the pupils explain and share all that they had learnt this term. I can’t believe the progress that they have all made. Well done, Form One!

Summer experiences will have been varied so we love hearing the options our pupils explore. Rosalila, going into Lower Sixth, had the opportunity to go on the @nationalyouthchoir residential this summer. She said, "There was real community of people and everyone was so friendly. I really enjoyed being part of such a welcoming group and it was wonderful to be in a choir with people who love singing and wanted to do their best to create amazing music. The range of songs was inspired and enlightening, from beautiful choral music, to jazzy songs, a capella singing to a Spanish fishing song. One song was created with Argentinian native languages and our Argentinian conductor told us about the origins and taught us some Latin dance moves. We even had a chance to speak to composers about their work which added more depth to our performance." #summerfun #independentschoolsuk #choirmusic #schoolchoirs #summeropportunities
