Scholars’ Concert and Cream Tea 2025

Posted: 10th October 2025

The annual Scholars’ Concert and Cream Tea took place on Wednesday after school. Featuring 16 pupils who are on the music scholarship programme, ranging in age from Third Form (Year 7) to Upper Sixth, the event began extremely well with tea and delicious scones available to both performers and audience on arrival.

The musical programme was equally satisfying, with performances on ‘cello, piano, violin, saxophone, trumpet, flute, French horn and voice, and featured six pupils who became music scholars this year, three of whom are also new to the school, and so taking to the Music Hall stage for the first time.

The concert marked the first of our Informal Concert series, which happens annually throughout the year and features 10 performances after school on Wednesdays. Grouped by ‘family’ of instrument (e.g. strings, brass etc.) the concerts provide the ideal platform for pupils across the school to hear and be inspired by others playing their instrument. The relaxed nature of the events mean that for less experienced musicians, the occasion provides the chance to give a solo performance without any pressure or formality, building their confidence for future opportunities.

Our next Informal Concert is for the string players on 12 November, after school in the Music Hall – all are welcome.
