Pre-Prep Reflections Week 5 October 2025

Dear parents,

It has been wonderful to return to school today and hear all about the exciting things that the children have been doing. While I enjoy visiting other schools and learn a huge amount from doing inspections, it is always nice to come back to Exeter Pre-Prep, and to reaffirm what a special place it is and how lucky we are to work with your brilliant children every day. Thank you to Ms Richards and the team for covering in my absence.

Visitors

On Tuesday, Mrs Van came in to talk to the children about items that can be donated for our harvest appeal (more details below). On Thursday, Mr Bone led an assembly on space and even left the children some space food to try! We also welcomed Mr Wood, Deputy Head of the junior school, to hear some children read in Year 2.

Next week

Year 2 will be heading over to the junior school on Thursday for their own special taster day. We are also looking forward to our harvest assembly at 3pm on Friday and hope to see many of you there. You can find more details below. I am hoping to squeeze in a school council meeting at some point next week too, as I know the new reps are eager to share their ideas.

I can’t believe it’s just one more week until half term. Have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Daniel Ayling

Spotlight on Year 2

What a fantastic week it has been! Year 2 has been full of energy, creativity and curiosity as we continue our exciting learning journey. In English, we have been diving into the world of poetry, inspired by Edward Lear. The children created their own nonsense poems full of funny rhymes and used their fantastic imaginations. Our place value topic is going strong in mathematics; the children are confidently partitioning, comparing and estimating numbers to 100 – amazing progress all round! This week, we also “flew” to France in geography! Using atlases, we explored facts about the country, and the children impressed us with their fantastic French vocabulary. In science, we have been discovering how exercise keeps us healthy. The children loved getting active while learning how our bodies work. Rehearsals are in full swing for our harvest assembly performance and excitement is building. Someone has even volunteered to bake a loaf of bread! Year 2 are all fully embracing their leadership roles and setting a brilliant example for our younger children. We are very proud of their hard work and enthusiasm.

Harvest Assembly

Parents are warmly invited to attend our harvest assembly next Friday from 3pm in the school hall. You do not need to reserve tickets. Nursery children who do not attend on Fridays are welcome to join parents in the audience.

We will once again be supporting our local food bank, the Westbank Community Larder, and would welcome non-perishable donations to be brought into school by the children next week. All donations are welcome but priority items listed by the charity are shown in the adjacent flyer – please click on it to enlarge.

We would appreciate it if items could be sent in carrier bags or small boxes to aid transportation. Every item will be used to help a local person or family in need. Thank you in advance for your support.
