Donation to Hospiscare tops £4000

Posted: 20th June 2025

Exeter School’s Young Changemakers team were given the proud task this week of presenting a donation cheque totalling £4102.34 to Hospiscare.

A huge thank you goes to all of you in our community who made this possible as fundraising efforts were ongoing throughout the year. The most recent push was that of the Family Society with the fabulously soggy summer fete, which raised a whopping £1500, despite the conditions faced during the few hours of the afternoon’s event.

The Young Changemakers group learnt about event and fundraising planning as part of the ambassador programme. They tested out their training, putting together the lunchtime Reindeer Run for our junior school pupils in December, a cake sale and a hockey match in April. They raised nearly £1000 with these events alone.

More of the donation was made up of amounts from the non-uniform day in November, the Christmas concert collections and other kind contributions through the year.

The cheque presentation was made during the Young Changemaker’s last session visiting the hospice’s centre on Tuesday where they were also presented with certificates of achievement and a token medal. These will hopefully remind them of everything they have learnt which ranged from basic medical care to advocating the effect the charity can have in end of life care.

Laura Robertson, Public Fundraising Manager for Hospiscare, created the Young Changemakers programme to inspire a younger generation to learn about end-of-life care and become ambassadors for Hospiscare. Laura says, “We wanted the pupils to understand that the charity was primarily funded by the generosity of the community and wanted to inspire them to want to get involved in fundraising. We’re really delighted with the donation and hope that the programme continues over the coming years with Exeter School and other schools across the area too.”

We look forward to our next intake of Lower Sixth pupils into the programme next year, continuing the partnership and open communication about services that could affect and be needed by loved ones around us at some point in our lives.
