Artist of the moment 2025/26

The art department regularly recognises the achievements of individual pupils in the senior school through the award of the title, ‘Artist of the Moment’. Entries cover a wide range of disciplines, including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation and mixed media celebrating the diverse talents of pupils in our co-educational day school.

Our artist of the moment this week is Emily from Lower Fifth (Year 9) who created this very effective skateboard design inspired by youth culture and brutalist architecture.

Our artists of the moment are Austin (immediately below) and Izzy (Plymouth design) from Lower Fifth Form (Year 9) who made these visually impactful digital art pieces inspired by Brutalist architecture and contemporary artist Peter Chadwick.

Our artist of the moment for this week is Cecily from Middle Fifth Form (Year 10) who created this striking photograph which is a development of her sculptural and photographic artwork inspired by artist Aldo Tolino. Very well done, Cecily!

Our artist of the moment for this week is Edward from Third Form (Year 7) who created this fantastic pencil crayon drawing of food. Well done on such effective use of the pencil crayon blending technique.

This week’s artist of the moment is Everleigh in Lower Fifth (Year 9), whose recent exploration into Gelli printing has produced striking results. Her work demonstrates a thoughtful investigation into shape and texture, aligning perfectly with our current focus on graphic design in the development of skateboard concepts.

Everleigh’s prints show a clear influence from David Carson, particularly in her bold use of typography and layered visual language.

We’re delighted to share our artist of the moment for this week: Elsa in Middle Fifth.

During our recent visit GCSE art trip to St. Ives we took away some seaweed to photograph back in school. Elsa has captured a series of stunning photographs of seaweed, showcasing a keen eye for texture, colour, and composition. She has thoughtfully used editing tools on her iPad to enhance the vibrancy and draw out intricate details, resulting in images that are both striking and beautifully composed.

It’s a fantastic example of creative exploration and technical skill—what a brilliant start to her GCSE art journey!

Our artist of the moment this week is Finn in Lower Fifth (Year 9). Finn, had his first Art lesson with Mrs Brewer on Monday, and she was really impressed with his outcomes, but also his ability to pick up digital programs quickly and efficiently. It is even more impressive that he is new to the school too, so well done Finn. His artwork consists of some black and white self-portraits that he took in class, layered with a kaleidoscope image which he created on Adobe Capture. He was inspired by the work of Photographer David Bailey and has developed his skills in framing, composition, and layering. A great first lesson Finn – well done.
