Last week, William (L5), competed in the Hornet National Sailing Championships, held in Torbay. Representing Starcross Yacht Club, this was the first time that William had sailed in an all-adult fleet and he faced the challenge head-on. William was the first-placed youth at the championships and was awarded the Tiger Skull trophy in recognition of this feat; a great achievement.
His boat was also awarded the Wedgewood Trophy, an endeavour award for the lowest ranked boat that finished every race. This was quite a feat as nine out of the 19 boats competing missed at least one race, with others missing a whole day of racing when the wind speeds reached in excess of 25 knots.
Over the summer, William will be competing in a number of events including the RS Feva World Championships in France and we wish him the best of luck and look forward to following his progress throughout the season.
