The spring term ended with a musical flourish in the form of the concert in support of WaterAid on the penultimate evening of term, and the musicians have not delayed in taking to the performance platform again this term with a Chamber Concert in the beautiful venue of Sidbury Parish Church on Friday 24 April, surrounded by blossom and bathed in sunshine.

Exeter School has a long-standing relationship with Sidbury, meaning that the appreciative audience was full of both locals and parents, who were treated to performances by 5 of the smaller senior ensembles and 12 solo/duet items. The Wind and Saxophone Ensembles, both directed by Miss Dean, provided contrasting items by Elgar and the catchy Rain Dance, whilst Senior Strings chose the Palladio by Jenkins. Senior Brass transported those of us who can remember them back to the 80s with Final Countdown, and the ‘cellos rounded off the evening with Goltermann’s charming Romance.

Soloists included singers, violinists, oboists, saxophonists, and a ‘cellist, flautist, trombonist, pianist and sax/trumpet jazz duet, all drawn from the L5 – U6 age band, with many on the Music Scholarship programme. Mr Daldorph had a busy evening accompanying all but two of the solo items. The individual items were all impressive, in the quality of performance and variety of programme selection, and by the end, the audience was left in no doubt that music at Exeter School continues to thrive.

The evening was rounded off with some delicious refreshments provided by the church.
