This year’s Form One Roman Day was a tremendous success, filled with learning, creativity, and excitement. Each pupil had their own favourite moment, making it hard to pick a standout highlight!
Ali was particularly impressed by Gluteus Maximus—resplendent in shiny new armour—and loved taking part in Roman army drills, especially performing the ‘testudo’ formation.
Summer thoroughly enjoyed the creative challenge of turning simple wooden pegs into detailed Roman soldiers. The children’s miniature creations were impressively intricate and showed a real flair for craftsmanship.
James was fascinated by the chance to explore Roman Exeter through Minecraft Education. The digital adventure, connected to the RAMM, sparked curiosity and amazement—especially when the children discovered that the cathedral hadn’t yet been built in Roman times and that sections of the original Roman wall still stand today.
For many of the children, the highlight was the captivating storytelling of Ms Katy Cawkwell. With energy and skill, Katy brought ancient myths to life, transporting the children through tales of Roman Gods and Goddesses, and the legendary story of Romulus and Remus.
The day was packed with engaging activities and joyful learning. Huge thanks go to Mr Pidwell, Mrs Morgan, Mrs Hardy, and Mr Gaskill for their dedication and effort in making the day so special. A big thank you also to the children and parents for their fabulous costumes and enthusiastic participation. It was truly a joyful and memorable celebration of Roman history!
It will definitely be a fond memory for the Form One’s for a long time to come.
