Exeter School Pupils Rise to the Challenge at Ten Tors 2026

Pupils from Exeter School celebrated an unforgettable weekend on Dartmoor after successfully completing the renowned Ten Tors Challenge 2026.

Representing the school in the 35-mile, 45-mile and 55-mile events, Exeter School pupils demonstrated resilience, teamwork and determination across two days of walking in glorious Dartmoor conditions. Many other pupils from the school community also took part in the challenge through organisations including Scouts and other youth groups, making it a proud weekend for the wider Exeter School family.

Strong Progress Across Dartmoor

Saturday brought warm sunshine and a welcome breeze, creating ideal conditions for the opening day of the challenge. Teams made excellent progress across the moor, navigating demanding terrain with confidence and energy.

Several groups pushed on impressively far into the route network, with some teams reaching as far as Tor 8 by the end of day one. Spirits remained high throughout the day as pupils supported one another across the challenging landscape.

Perfect Conditions for a Memorable Finish

Sunday dawned sunny once again, although cooler temperatures and a steady breeze provided perfect walking weather for the final stretch back to Okehampton Camp.

From 11.30am onwards, Exeter School teams began arriving at the finish line to cheers from families, staff and supporters. Alongside the tremendous sense of achievement came some memorable fancy dress moments, with pupils embracing the celebratory atmosphere in banana costumes, Hawaiian shirts and even a Men in Black-inspired theme.

The school’s 55-mile team made a particularly memorable entrance at around 2pm, crossing the finish line in style while ‘riding’ inflatable horses to the delight of the waiting crowd.

Medals, Pasty and Proud Moments

After completing their routes, pupils were exhausted but elated as they received their Ten Tors medals and celebratory pasties. The finish area was filled with hugs, photographs and proud smiles as families and friends gathered to celebrate the achievement.

Ten Tors Manager Ben Hall praised the pupils for their commitment and perseverance throughout the event.

“The teams performed brilliantly across the weekend,” he said. “Their resilience, teamwork and positivity were outstanding, and we are incredibly proud of every pupil who took part.”

A Proud Exeter School Tradition

Ten Tors remains one of the most demanding and rewarding youth challenges in the UK, testing endurance, navigation and teamwork across Dartmoor’s rugged terrain. For Exeter School pupils, the event continues to be a valued opportunity to develop confidence, independence and lifelong memories.

Congratulations to all pupils who took part in Ten Tors 2026 and represented the school community with such enthusiasm, determination and spirit.
