On Tuesday 2 December, three Exeter School pupils took part in the first heat of The Great Debate, a national public speaking competition organised by the Historical Association and hosted locally at The Maynard School.
Representing Exeter School were Alex (Upper Fifth), George (Upper Fifth) and Amy (Lower Sixth), who each prepared and delivered a speech in response to this year’s question:
“How important are personal and public records as evidence for explaining the story, or stories, of your local area?”
Over the past few months, the pupils put a great deal of thought and effort into preparing for the competition. They researched their ideas carefully, shaped their speeches and spent time rehearsing so they felt confident on the day.
Ms Harris, who accompanied the pupils, was extremely proud of the pupils’ efforts and how brilliantly they all represented the school.
