On Friday 14 November, 33 pupils in M5/U5 had an early start as they travelled to Krakow in Poland. The trip commenced with a tour around the Jewish quarter of Krakow and pupils learning about the history of Judaism in Poland, before visiting the Galicia gallery and hearing from a holocaust survivor.

On Saturday, pupils travelled to Auschwitz were they spent four hours touring the two sites there. The experience was both informative and moving for all involved and pupils reflected very well on this in a follow up seminar later that day. In the afternoon pupils were also able to explore the historic centre of Krakow for the first time and visited the famous St Mary’s basilica.

On Sunday, we visited the Wielicza Salt Mine in the morning and pupils, home to one of the biggest underground churches in the world. In the afternoon we were given a guided tour of the beautiful Wawel Castle in Krakow, learning more about the history of Poland. Pupils enjoyed some last minute souvenir shopping and hot chocolate tasting in Krakow before heading home on Sunday evening.
