Lower Two pupils connect with German pen pals

This year, Lower Two pupils from class L2P have taken part in an exciting letter exchange project, connecting with a primary and secondary school in Friedrichsfehn, Lower Saxony, in northern Germany.

A Year 5 class from Friedrichsfehn sent a wonderful collection of letters written in English, which the pupils at Exeter School were delighted to receive. Even though they have only had a few German lessons so far — learning greetings and colours — they worked hard to write letters in return, introducing themselves and asking their new German friends lots of questions.

The letters are being sent off this week, and the pupils are eagerly awaiting their replies. Everyone involved has enjoyed the opportunity to connect with pupils their own age in another country, and several third and fourth form pupils also joined in to write letters of their own.

There was particular excitement about receiving handwritten letters rather than emails — a reminder of how enjoyable traditional letter writing can be!
