Form One ESSIS performance

Posted: 20th June 2025

Exeter School String Instrument Scheme (ESSIS) has now successfully completed its fourth year, and was celebrated by  an informal concert featuring this year’s Form One string musicians.

In class music lessons, the pupils learned three pieces which brought the whole year to play together, under the direction of Miss Willson, and then various smaller ensembles played pieces that they studied as part of their paired instrumental lessons with our specialist string teachers. These lessons have taken place throughout the year and have been funded by the school to encourage our youngest junior pupils to get involved in making music and to experience the many benefits of learning an instrument. Studies regularly conclude that these benefits include developing skills in concentration, perseverance, co-ordination and team-work, all of which transfer to broader life-skills and learning.

To further inspire the Form One pupils to continue on their musical journey, the string teachers formed a quartet and demonstrated what can be achieved with lots of practice!
