The school cricket season started last week and, unsurprisingly, the April weather threw a few early season surprises our way with a wet weekend followed by a wonderful week of sunshine. The first block of the season was affected by the rain on Saturday with the U13A and U12A boys matches and the U13 girls matches cancelled. Nevertheless, the 1st XI and U15A matches went ahead and the 1st XI played some excellent cricket to beat Plymouth College by 16 runs. Victory was very much a team effort with useful contributions with the bat from captain Freddie C, Nate J and Mo K to post a score of 143 – 4 . Our trio of spinners then took five wickets between them and restricted Plymouth College to 127 – 8 in their run chase. The 1st XI were also involved in the national schools cup the night before winning comfortably against Launceston College by 31 runs; they now face Bristol Grammar School next Wednesday in the next round.
In other cricket news, the U15s got their season up and running with a convincing win against Uffculme on Thursday afternoon. Archie C scoring an unbeaten half century, this followed his excellent innings the week before at Plymouth. The U13 boys and girls were also in mid-week action at Wellington. All four teams were involved in good matches and we look forward to seeing how they get on this season.
This weekend’s block fixtures against Wellington has 1st XI, U15A and U12A at home and the U14A&B and U12B away. Fingers crossed the sun shines and we have some excellent matches.
