During Autumn half term, 14 of us went to Hildesheim for a German exchange. To get there we flew to Hamburg and took a coach to Hildesheim. We arrived there at 1am and were quickly taken to our respective houses to get as much sleep as we could.
Day 1
On our first day, we had a tour of Hildesheim where we could get to know our partners. My partner was called Alex and he was a really relaxed and nice guy. When we got back to their home, me and Alex started to play basketball together which was great as I wanted to get better and he was a good player.
Day 2
We visited Goslar and looked at the mines (or bergwerk in German). We had a bit of time to spare so Alex and I went and got Döner Kebabs, which were massive and definitely one of my highlights of the trip.
Day 3
We visited Bremen and saw the sights and when we got home I had a taste of Currywurst and it was delicious (or lecker).
Day 4
On the fourth day, we visited the East/West German wall and were told about its infamous history and of the daring escapes of some of the East Germans.
Day 5
We had a proper German day at school which was an excellent opportunity for us to expand our German vocabulary.
Our final day
Finally on the last full day, we spent time with our German family and I went on a walk through the beautiful Hildesheim forests. I had a great time and really got to know my German host family who were really nice and very welcoming. As we went to get on to the train platform I waved goodbye to them but I am looking forward to seeing Alex in March when the German school visits us.
