Mr David McGahey

David was Director of Education for Buckinghamshire until 2000, having previously worked for five other Local Education Authorities. He was himself once a teacher. From 2001 he was Managing Director successively of a number of Education businesses: Amey Education, VT Education and Skills, HBS Education and Eteach. He has worked in public affairs and was for a while Business Development Director of the Times Education Supplement.

He retired in 2014 as Director and Chief Executive of AMC Ltd, a market leading executive recruitment consultancy working with Independent and maintained schools in the UK and with International schools world-wide.

David grew up in Exeter, attending Exeter School in the late 1960s; he has an MA(Hons), an MA and a PGCE. He is a Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Educators. He is a Governor of St George’s School, Luxembourg. Locally, he is a Governor of the St. John’s Hospital Educational Foundation, a Director of Bovey Tracey Paradiso Arts Ltd and is very active in his local community, Lustleigh on Dartmoor.

David’s partner, Jane, is a retired primary headteacher. He has two daughters, one a primary teacher, the other works in the theatre.
