Pre-Prep Reflections Week 6 October 2025

Dear parents,

What a busy week it has been getting things wrapped up before half term! Six weeks have flown by. The children have made such a fantastic start to the year and I think we are all ready to take some time to rest and recharge over the next two weeks.

School Council

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with our new school council reps, who were brimming with wonderful ideas as always. They have been helping to come up with ideas for re-stocking the outdoor stage boxes and some new playground resources – we may have some wigs and hobby horses coming soon! I will be in touch with the class reps after half term to arrange our first meeting.

Harvest festival assembly

Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for the harvest festival assembly this afternoon. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! The children were excellent and performed with real confidence. We were all very proud of them. We have had so many donations of food and household items over the past couple of weeks, which have now been collected by Westbank for use in their Exminster and Starcross community larders. Thanks again for your generosity and support.

Taster day

Yesterday, Year 2 enjoyed their own special taster day at Exeter Junior School. The children spent time with the Year 3 teachers, Mrs Hardy and Mrs Handley, and took part in a whole range of exciting activities. They were very well behaved and there were lots of smiles and much enthusiasm when they got back to Exminster! We will be sharing details of further taster visits and workshops in due course.

Visiting music teacher

We are currently recruiting for a visiting teacher of piano (and possibly singing). Please do share the advert with anyone who you think may be interested in applying. Hopefully we will be able to offer individual piano/singing lessons again from January, if not before. I look forward to sharing more information with you in due course.

Below you will find a list of provisional dates for the spring term, which we hope you find helpful to plan ahead. Wishing you all a restful and very happy half term. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 3 November.

Mr Daniel Ayling

Spotlight on Nursery

This week in Nursery, we’ve been continuing our exciting topic of People Who Help Us, with a special focus on firefighters. In literacy, the children have been working hard to develop their mark-making and pencil control skills. We have been thinking carefully about how we hold our pencils and exploring which hand feels most comfortable, helping us build confidence and control in our early writing. In mathematics, we’ve been exploring the world of patterns. The children loved spotting patterns in their environment during a fun pattern hunt around the school. We even extended this learning by using our bodies to create rhythmic patterns through clapping and stamping – a great way to combine movement and maths! One of the highlights of the week was getting messy while creating our very own firefighter art using handprints. We have also been learning about Harvest and have been enthusiastically practising our song for the upcoming assembly. We are incredibly proud of how hard the children have been working this half term. Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable break!
