Pre-Prep Reflections Week 37 July 2025
Dear parents,
We have reached the end of another school year and I just wanted to write one final newsletter to say a huge thanks for all your support throughout the year. This marks the end of my fourth year as Head of this magical school, a role that continues to be a great joy and a privilege. I remember greeting many of our departing Year 2 children on their first day in the Nursery back in September 2021, or at some point along the way for those who joined later, and I am so proud of how each and every one of them has turned out as they prepare to move on to their next schools.
Visitors
On Monday, we welcomed Gillian Hodgetts, Chair of Governors, into school for the morning. This was her first visit during school hours since becoming Chair, and she had a lovely time meeting lots of children and staff, and watching rehearsals for the summer showcase. I know she is hoping to come along to some events next year, where she will be able to chat to parents.
On Tuesday afternoon, we held our final parent drop-in of the year and sent all of the children’s work home. As always, the children were incredibly proud to share their learning with you and it’s always amazing to see the sheer volume of work they have each amassed in a year! We hope you enjoy looking through it.
Summer showcase
The summer showcase yesterday was a real highlight of the year, with all the children involved in singing and collecting a personalised certificate, each class taking a turn to perform, and standout solo performers. Our Year 2 leavers were also presented with a gift box containing an Exonian pin badge, a miniature lucky Ruffles keepsake, and a pencil set and postcards, which we hope they might use to write back to us in the future.
End of year celebrations
Today has been no less busy and the fun has not stopped! This morning, we had the end of year party in the hall, led as always by the brilliant Ruth Lawrence, who runs our drama club and has a talent for single-handedly managing all the children and getting them all involved. This afternoon, we welcomed Miss Polly Wheller into school, fresh off her flight from Malaysia, to spend time with the Year 1 children ahead of her role as Year 2 teacher in September. We also had an outdoor disco, an end of year assembly where we said a fond farewell to Ms AJ and good luck to Mrs Lawrence-Jones, and the family picnic at the end of the day…
Phew! After all that, I think we are all well and truly ready for a rest. So I will sign off by saying many thanks for all your kind messages over the last few days. We have been overwhelmed with cards and generous gifts, and we are all so grateful for your incredible support, as always.
I hope you all have a relaxing and restorative summer break. Happy holidays!
