Pre-Prep Reflections Week 35 June 2025
Dear parents,
This week has been all about trips and visits. Mr Heath, Ms AJ and I have been busy driving buses here, there and everywhere, while the children back at school have enjoyed two picnic lunches this week. No doubt you will have some tired children this weekend!
Paignton Zoo trip
On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of accompanying Year 2 on their trip to Paignton Zoo. We had a wonderful time and were lucky to see lots of amazing animals in close proximity. All of the children were excellent ambassadors for our school, holding doors open for other visitors, and being polite and well mannered with everyone they met. We even had a member of the public commenting on how well behaved they were. Thanks to Ms Richards for organising and leading this trip.
Fire station trip
Year 1 spent the morning at Middlemoor Fire Station in Exeter yesterday. They had great fun exploring the fire fighters’ pole, sitting in a real fire engine and taking turns to spray the powerful hoses. They also impressed the fire service team with their knowledge of fire safety and the Great Fire of London! Thanks to Mrs Lawrence-Jones for organising and leading this trip.
Beach School
Reception have been at Dawlish Warren Beach and Nature Reserve today, having a trial Beach School day, ahead of our plan to offer further sessions in the autumn term. This was in collaboration with the ranger team at Dawlish Warren, and the children were able to visit the education centre, as well as having fun learning on the beach. I managed to pop down this afternoon to enjoy an ice cream with them before we all came back to school. Thanks to Mrs Smyth for organising and leading this trip.
Staff update
Yesterday, I talked to the children in assembly about Ms Simpson’s departure for the Netherlands and showed them the video clip introducing Mr Bone as next year’s Acting Head. They are looking forward to meeting him again soon.

Sadly, Ms AJ will be leaving us at the end of term to move to a new role in the travel sector. I know she leaves us with a heavy heart and we will all miss her. I will be advertising the school administrator role shortly and recruiting over the summer holidays. AJ has kindly agreed to do some handover dates with the new post holder in August so that they are ready to start in September.
We are also pleased to hear the exciting news that the new Head of Exeter School from September 2026 will be Dr Adrian Rainbow. We hope you enjoyed reading Gillian Hodgetts’ letter sent to families yesterday but if you would like to read more, please see our website story.

Next week
Next week is the final full week of the school year and will also be our Sports Week (see full details below). Transition afternoon takes place on Wednesday afternoon for all pupils, followed by Sports Day on Friday afternoon. We hope you can join us for both of these events. I am currently putting the finishing touches to the children’s end of year reports and hope to send these home on Monday, if all goes well with the printing!
Have a lovely weekend.
