Pre-Prep Reflections Week 25 2024
Dear parents,
Happy Easter
Here we are again at the end of another busy and exciting spring term. Today the school has been abuzz with all things Easter-related as the children enjoyed special themed workshops, including creating Easter crowns and bonnets, making chocolate egg nests, learning about Easter traditions around the world and, of course, the all important Easter egg hunt! Thank you to Miss Lawrence for organising an Easter egg for every child to take home as an extra treat from us.
Sponsored Fun Run
Yesterday, we were blessed with great weather for our charity fun run and the children were absolutely amazing, taking it in turns to run a 100-metre course around the school building. Each class ran four times throughout the day for 10-15 minutes at a time, and children were invited to run extra laps at playtimes if they wanted to, which many did! Our aim was to try to run a cumulative marathon, a total distance of 26.2 miles, but we ended up smashing this target, running 112.8 miles in total, which is well over four marathons!
Special mentions
Every single child ran at least 1km on their own. Special mentions must go to Benji in Nursery who ran 4.3km, Joshua in Reception who managed 4.7km, Ru in Year 1 who clocked up 5.4km, and Bel in Year 2 who achieved the furthest distance of 6.4km! Ben and Alex in Year 2 also ran over 5km each throughout the day. We are so proud of all our little runners and it was heart-warming to see them cheering each other on, joining hands to support one another, and showing such fantastic determination to keep going.
Sponsor money
All children will be bringing home their certificate of participation from Westbank today, which shows their total number of laps and distance. We would love them to share this with friends and family over the Easter break so that they can collect sponsorship. Sponsor forms and money can then be returned to us at the beginning of next term. I am sure we will raise lots of money for our friends at Westbank in Exminster. Thank you so much for your support.
Sporting success
Congratulations to Ru and Will in Year 1 who took part in a duathlon (cycling and running) over the weekend. Ru came in first place and Will in tenth place out of forty entrants. They proudly shared their medals in assembly yesterday. What a super achievement! Congratulations also to Ollie in Year 2 who managed to achieve his 200m swimming award yesterday after running a brilliant 4.8km throughout the day. There were definitely some tired and achy legs in school today!
Farewell to Mrs Martin
Today we say a fond farewell to Mrs Helen Martin who has taught Reception for nearly four years. In 2022, she took on the role of Head of Early Years and SENDCo, and has done an excellent job in taking both of these areas from strength to strength. She has supported me in leading and developing the school and now goes on to help establish a new primary provision at an independent special school in Yeovil, much closer to home. We will all miss her and wish her every success in her new role. Mrs Kate Rickard will be taking up the reins alongside Mrs Dray in Reception from next term.
Next term
We said a sad goodbye to Penny in Nursery this week who has been with us over the last two years, as was her brother Rupert before her. Our love and best wishes go to everyone in the Priddle family for the future. We have six new pupils joining the school next term: three in Nursery, one in Reception and two in Year 1. We look forward to welcoming them into the Exeter Pre-Prep family. A quick reminder that my next coffee morning will be taking place from 8.50am on Monday 22 April, the first full week back next term. Please come along and join me if you are able to.
I hope the Easter break gives you all a chance to rest, relax and spend time having fun together with friends and family – perhaps squeezing in some chocolate as well? I look forward to seeing everyone again at the start of the summer term.
