Pre-Prep Reflections 9 October 2026

Dear parents,

I can’t believe it’s just one more week until half term!

Character Education

On Monday, Miss Rose, one of the deputy heads at Exeter School, came over to give an assembly on the theme of ‘aspiration’. Miss Rose has led the development of character education for the last few years and visits every half term to talk to the children about our school virtues, at the core of which is our aim for the children to ‘aspire and flourish’. We’ve recently had some new postcards and stickers designed, featuring our kind kingfisher, helpful heron, curious curlew and teamwork turtledove, and after half term we look forward to giving these out to the children as part of our reward system.

Sixth Form visitors

Today was Field Day in the senior school and so we welcomed six pupils from the Lower Sixth here at the pre-prep. They spent most of the day with us, helping in lessons, playing with the children outside and having lunch with them. It was lovely to see our young children looking up to these 16 and 17 year olds with such awe, and to give them a sense of what they could aspire to be in the future.

Baby news

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Titchin on the birth of baby Florence! Arriving yesterday morning at 5am, she weighed in at 5lbs 4oz. Mum and baby are both doing well and we look forward to seeing them soon.

Class Reps

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to be class reps in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. If there are any Nursery parents who would be interested in being the class rep, please get in touch with me.

Next week

We have a very busy week coming up with children in every day for taster days. On Monday, Miss Rachel Harrison will be joining us to start her new role working in our Nursery class. I will be out of school on Wednesday to attend a meeting at IAPS headquarters in Lemington Spa where I’ve joined the membership committee, then I’ll be driving down to London to attend the Independent School Awards on Wednesday evening. Fingers crossed! Year 2 will be heading over to the junior school on Thursday for their own special taster day. We are also looking forward to our harvest assembly at 3pm on Friday and hope to see many of you there. Don’t forget we will be saying a fond farewell to Mrs Wannell after this with some tea and cake in the hall, so do stay for that if you can.

Hope you all manage to get some rest this weekend.

Mr Daniel Ayling

We are delighted to congratulate William W, Tom S and Stefan A on their selection to the prestigious @royalyachtingassociation Youth Transition Squads. ⛵

William and Tom have secured places in the 29er Squad, while Stefan has earned his spot in the @ilca_uk Squad. This is a significant achievement. Their selection recognises the dedication, commitment and outstanding performance all three boys have shown in competitive sailing.

This milestone marks an exciting step in each of their sailing journeys. It also reflects the high level at which William, Tom and Stefan are already competing.

Congratulations! We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to following your progress on the water. 🌊
