Both Upper Fifth religious studies GCSE groups enjoyed an excellent session with two visitors to explore issues related to crime and punishment.
Zhi commented, “Before half term we received a talk from sector inspector for Exeter, Nathan Johnson and ex-offender and former drug addict Nathan Hill. The talk was about crime and punishment which is one of the themes in the GCSE RS syllabus. It was very enlightening to hear about both of their perspectives from opposing sides of the law, we also discussed how do people become involved with drugs and other crimes and how we could prevent this, especially in young people. Overall, it was thought provoking and eye opening learning experience and gave us a chance to further our learning by asking questions to those who have experienced crime and punishment for themselves.”
Penelope added, “The talk was not only incredibly informative but also very enjoyable, providing us with knowledge to support our religious studies GCSE, but also advice to help us outside of school. Both Nathan’s stories gave us an interesting insight into the police force and Christianity.”
It was great to see pupils deeply engaged and they asked some excellent questions.
