Following an MFL talk on Wednesday evening, Upper Sixth (Year 13) languages prefect Delilah shares her experience and key takeaways:
“Attending the talk on Languages in a Global World at Exeter University was very interesting, and something especially relevant after the recent discussions on the future of language courses at various UK universities.
The speaker described his pathway from studying French and German at University to continuing his language studies while working in Morocco and Sweden, and how this has taken him through such a diverse range of careers as teaching, publishing, working in international business and his current work with refugees.
It was equally as interesting to hear his responses to questions all about language learning: his thoughts on AI in the world of translation and interpreting, how we learn languages and what language he thinks in. It was greatly beneficial for not just A Level but also GCSE students with a passion for languages to hear such a fascinating talk.”
