England U20 Gold for Rory

Posted: 30th January 2026

Massive congratulations to Lower Sixth (Year 12) pupil Rory, who secured a hugely impressive victory at the prestigious Elgoibar international cross country competition.

We caught up with Rory earlier today to learn more about his fantastic achievement:

“The race was very good, it’s a really nice course, a great crowd and I couldn’t believe I was able to win! I just had a really great run on the day”

“It took me a bit of time for it to sink in. I think my parents were desperately waiting for a phone call”

Rory also highlighted how proud he was to have represented the England Under 20 cross country team: “it’s an honour to run for England, it’s an experience I’ll never forget”.

Although the victory is still sinking in, Rory is already looking ahead and keen to continue his excellent form: “I’ve got Devon Schools tomorrow and South West the week after. Three big ones after that are Nationals, UK Inter Counties and English Schools. Hopefully I’ll win maybe two of them. Those will be the main goals for the season.”

This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to Rory’s commitment and hard work. The school wishes him every success for the rest of the season.
