National Scientific Thinking Challenge

Posted: 6th June 2025

In May, a group of Middle Fifth pupils sat the National Scientific Thinking Challenge. This is an online test written by lecturers from Warwick, Bristol, Newcastle, Oxford, Durham, Manchester and Nottingham Universities and supported by UCAS. The challenge is designed to test Y10 pupils on their approach to unfamiliar scientific problems and data analysis.

Over 15,600 Y10 pupils across the country took part and 33 of our pupils received awards, including 12 who were awarded gold; the top 10% of entries.

Congratulations to all of our award winners and particularly to the gold award recipients: Alex, Alfie, Bella, Berenice, John, Matthew, Mitchell, Stan Thomas, Thomas, Yi-Ren and Zhi.
