2025 cricket season commences

Posted: 16th May 2025

The driest spring on record has meant that the start of the school’s cricket season has been blessed with sunshine and excellent wickets to play on and the school’s teams have responded by playing some superb cricket. Two excellent blocks against Wellington & Blundell’s School over the past two weekends have seen a large number of teams in action and there have been some really pleasing results for both the boys teams. Arguably, the most exciting match was a tied match for the U15A boys at Blundell’s last week.

The 1st XI have also had a brilliant run of success with wins against Plymouth College and Wellington School as well as a cup run in the national schools’ T20 competition. Following round one success at home to Launceston College, they were drawn against much tougher opposition in Bristol Grammar School (Away) in the second round and local rivals Blundell’s in round 3. Exeter School played some superb cricket on their fixture against Bristol Grammar School to win by 54 runs, thanks to an explosive innings from Ollie (Upper Sixth) and wickets from captain Freddie (U6), Josh (U5) and George (L5). The Blundell’s match was an even better performance with Exeter pitted as underdogs. A man of the match performance from Josh (U5) scoring 65 and taking 2 wickets helped the team win by 16 runs and a quarter final place where they now face last year’s national champions King’s College, Taunton next Friday at home. We can’t wait!

There has also been county cup success for our younger year groups with the U15, U14 and U12 boys squads all progressing to the semi-final stages after half term following wins against Uffculme, King’s Ottery and Churston Ferres Grammar School. Highlights of the quarter-final stages included a superb innings from George in the U14 (82), a blistering fifty from another George in the U12s (51 off 19 balls) and a fifty from Archie in the U15 fixture.
