Abstract art workshop by Liese Webley

Posted: 13th March 2025

On 28 February, our art scholars attended a workshop run by Liese Webley where they had the chance to learn more about the her work as well before setting to work on their own pieces of abstract art.

Selina (L5) has written about her experience during the day:

The day started with an introduction to Liese and her abstract art including paintings, card work and prints. She explained her in depth process and how all her layering and textures were created, which we all agreed were very interesting and creative ideas. We were then set on the task to create simple, colourful sketches with oil pastels and references, but we weren’t allowed to look at what we were drawing! Being completely freehand and letting our hands take control was all a part of the process. From these sketches we would choose our favourite one which later would be turned into a massive abstract painting!

This was my favourite part of the workshop, being able to work on such a big surface was a great experience. It was incredible watching everyone not being afraid to get straight onto the canvas’ and exploring their designs with little fear. It was a fantastic experience, and we’d like to say a big thank you to Liese and Mrs Brewer who made the workshop possible.
