Twilight Jazz, Rock and Pop concert

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Twilight Jazz, Rock and Pop concert, the event returned this year on Wednesday in the Music Hall.   Featuring Jazz Bands 1 and 2, Swunk, Swunkette and several bands formed and led by the pupils, it once again proved to be a lively and entertaining event, enthusiastically supported by the families and friends of the performers.

Along with some very rhythmically tight big band playing, a number of pupils took on the challenge of improvising solos, which were much appreciated by the audience.  In addition to the many jazz instrumentalists, several numbers featured vocal soloists –Grace, Darcy and Phoebe in Swunkette, Rebecca and Minti together followed by Minti impressively accompanying herself in a vocal/piano item, and Oscar with Jazz Band 1 and his own band, the Antarctic Gibbons. Grateful thanks to ensemble leaders Ms. Dean, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bowen. More photos are available here.

The showcase jazz event in the summer is now confirmed as Monday 1 July in the Assembly Hall, which will be transformed into Exeter’s premier night-spot.  You do not need to wait until then to enjoy some excellent music, however.  On Wednesday 13 March around 130 singers, 11 pupil vocal soloists and Symphony Orchestra supported by professional players will all be performing in the Choral Society Concert in Exeter Cathedral.  Tickets are still available via My School Portal box office or by clicking here.
