Sports round up

Posted: 19th May 2023

Some sunshine at last! The fine weather has contributed to another successful week of summer sports. Our athletes visited Exeter Arena again, this time for the Exeter district vs the East Devon athletics event. Nine Exeter School pupils have been successful in qualifying for the Devon finals later this month, special mention to Alex (4F), Thea (4F) and Jacob (L5) who all performed excellently at the event. There was also success on the tennis courts with the U15 girls squad winning their first AEGON cup match against Ivybridge College, we look forward to much more tennis after the half term break.

A successful cricket block against Blundell’s last weekend, which saw eight matches and 4 wins for Exeter, was followed by a busy mid-week schedule. The U13s continued their successful season with a convincing win against KES Southampton in the National Cup and victory in the County Cup against Mount Kelly. Special mention to Leo (4F) for his excellent knock in the national cup and to Alex (4F) who hit a magnificent 127 not out off 66 balls in the county cup. The U13As now face Poole GS in the knock out stages of the national cup. There were also two wins in the national T20 cup for the 1st XI and they now await the draw for the semi-finals of the national plate after topping their group. Amongst all this success, perhaps the best moment of the week, was witnessing 15 matches being played on Wednesday afternoon against 5 schools with teams ranging from 1st XI to the U10D team! Great credit and a big thank you to the ground staff who have somehow managed to turn the fields around flowing the flash floods last week.
