Sport plays an important role in the life of Exeter School. All pupils have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a wealth of social and competitive sport. The central aim is to develop in all pupils an interest in, and enthusiasm for physical activity nurturing their independence, self confidence, leadership and team work.
All pupils in the school have a Games Session for their age group. In Years 3-10 this follows the main sport of the term. For boys this is Rugby, Hockey and Cricket and for girls this is Hockey, Netball, Rounders & Tennis. As pupils progress through the school they have a guided choice of activities for their games session. In Years 11-13 there are fourteen different activities available on a termly basis. These include the major sports but also include, shooting, kayaking, cross country, squash and table tennis.
There are also a wide range of sporting opportunities in the Extra Curricular time available. After school from 4-5 pm and the hour long lunch break are used throughout the week. Clubs are fully inclusive and pupils can select what they attend on a weekly basis. These clubs can allow pupils access to new activities such as dance, climbing, table tennis, kayaking, shooting and ultimate frisbee. In all the school offers 25 sports over the course of the year.
Both individual and team success are fostered and developed. Around 400 pupils will represent the school termly on the sports field. Many of these go on to county, regional and national representation over a wide range of sports.
