John began his teaching career as a class teacher at Newlands Prep School in Newcastle and then moved to Royal Grammar School in Newcastle to take up the position of head of English.
John moved a little further south in 2003 to become the head of English at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield. He joined Exeter Junior School in 2008 as the school’s first deputy head, to support the head as the school was growing into the junior school it is today.
