Aoife-Jane grew up in Ireland and studied History, English and Irish at University College Dublin before completing a Higher Diploma in Education. She later undertook further studies in Mathematics and Learning Support, reflecting her commitment to broadening her educational expertise.
She spent nine years teaching at Dundalk Grammar School and Kilkenny College, where she taught History, English and Irish while developing extensive pastoral experience. During this time, she played and coached hockey, served as an Assistant Residential House Parent, and managed large residential summer schools, fostering her passion for supporting young people both inside and outside the classroom.
After moving to the UK, Aoife-Jane held teaching, sports coaching and boarding positions at Millfield and Blundell’s before joining Exeter School as a History teacher and hockey coach. To deepen her understanding of child development and learning, she completed a BSc in Psychology with the Open University, specialising in Child Psychology. This has further informed her practice and approach to supporting pupils, both within and beyond the classroom.
Since joining Exeter School, she has continued to build on her considerable pastoral leadership experience, serving as both Head of House and Head of Upper Sixth, and is now delighted to take on the role of Assistant Head, Middle School. These varied experiences have strengthened her belief in the importance of a holistic education and the vital role that pupil wellbeing plays in helping young people thrive.
