1st Cricket vs Wellington - beaten by the rain today but not before the 1st XI had scored 160-4 (Jacob 55, Marcus 44*, Ross 28) in a shortened format of 20 overs. Wellington had reached 96-2 in reply and it was all set up for an exciting finish before the rain ☔️ arrived! @exeterschooluk ...#cricket #schoolscricket #exeterschoolsport #schoolofgreatcharacter

Huge congratulations to the 7 @exeterschooluk U14 boys who help secure their team’s place at the Hockey National Finals . Playing for ISCA Hockey they drew to Woking HC in the final pool game securing their place on finals day to be held later in May.

Only 8 teams across the country ...qualify for nationals so this is an amazing accomplishment 👏🏻 @iscahockeyclubjuniors

House relays involving pupils from each year group in the senior school took place on Tuesday lunchtime. Great fun, lots of tired legs and a win for Dowrich House 👏🏻🏆

Fourth Form had an absolute blast on their residential last weekend when they went off to Brenscombe Outdoor Centre in Dorset for a two night stay.

The trip celebrated the completion of the year group's time in lower school and was a chance for pupils to enjoy some quality time ...together, embrace new experiences and build character. Activities included high ropes, rock climbing and abseiling at Swanage sea cliffs, water sports at Cleavel point and team challenges such as archery, catapulting and air rifle shooting.

An evening walk to Corfe Castle was also a magical addition to the trip where staff had very little trouble getting them off to bed after long days of outdoor activities!

This week was Mental Health week. In junior school, we talked about general mental health before talking about happiness and anxiety. We used balloons and wrote our names on them to demonstrate our happiness and left them scattered randomly around the library. We then discuss what it’s like to ...only focus on our own thoughts, both happy and sad, positive and anxious.

U2T were then timed trying to find their own balloon. They weren’t allowed to focus on anything or anyone else, just finding their balloon. We chatted about how hard that was and how long it took us all to find them.

We then put all the balloons back in the library, scattered them and timed how long it took if we found the first balloon we came to and returned it to its owner, which was over 45 seconds quicker!

We then chatted about how sharing both our worries and anxieties, as well as our dreams and successes, has a positive effect on our mental wellbeing and allows us to complete our goals more quickly.

Such an eye-opening task ☺️🎈

"George and I both participated in a bronze wing course at RAF St Mawgan which was a put over 1 day and a night where we experienced what life is like on an active military base. On the Sunday we did a range of class work activities and also practical activities on the flight sims. We learnt ...about the physics of the aircraft and the appropriate ways to do a range of manoeuvres such as stalling. Using the flight sims were amazing as they were very highly advanced. We learnt the high standards required for flying but also uniform and bearing as well. We both highly recommend this course to cadets who are looking to progress their knowledge in aviation and represent the school. We can’t wait for the silver course next year."

Thanks to Monty in U5 for this little write up of a ground-based training course at RAF St Mawgan recently.

Two of our Lower Sixth pupils, Jacob and Freddie represented Devon U17’s on Sunday in a county rugby game against Dorset and Wiltshire, with Devon winning 50-24.

They were selected off the back of trials that took place a few weeks ago. Freddie scored 2 tries and Jacob scored 1. Well ...done boys! Let us know when you're playing again!

Following Jonny's inspirational video yesterday about his fundraising activities for Hospiscare, a vital local charity, we caught up with Martin, their Senior Events Fundraiser.

They're loving what our pupils are doing to raise awareness of this much needed care that families ...may need at the drop of a hat. While the Himalayas Trek is now sold out, you can sign up for The Dartmoor Beast to raise funds for Hospiscare. It’s now 50% sold with approx. £15,000 raised for Hospiscare so far. I'm sensing an Exeter School team on the horizon??

Jonny in Lower Sixth is one of our Young Changemakers, working to raise awareness of local end-of-life care givers, Hospiscare . He's currently undertaking several different fundraisers like The Nello and The Exe Valley Triathlon to prepare himself for the big Himalaya Trek in October.
...
Although the trekkers are nearly at 50% of their target, we'd really appreciate your support for this local charity, right across the street from us. We'll also be catching up with Martin, their charity ambassador in the coming days to hear more about their important work.

Like many other proud Devonians, we're busy preparing for the Devon County Show taking place next weekend, from Thursday 21-Saturday 23 May inclusive.

Come along and visit our staff on Avenue A, stand 94, where you can take shelter from whatever the weather, play some games or have ...a drink. Chat to us about your child and what they love to get stuck into. Recount times gone by or catch up with us if you've been a part of our community for years.

We very much look forward to seeing you all there soon!

Exeter School Alumni

What an amazing Ten Tors event this weekend! Teams from M5 and L6 took on the 35, 45 and 55 mile challenges over the two days and we were wowed by not only their perseverance but also their costumes - aren't they amazing?

Exeter School Alumni will also have fond memories of this ...event and may have even been encouraged by the same staff - a huge thanks to Mr Hall, now commemorated on one team's t-shirts, for all the effort that goes into this event each year. Well done to all, some very sore feet around school today 🥾

More news to follow as we round it all up 😁

What a glorious day it was for yesterday's Upper Sixth graduation ceremony!

We just about held it together but the pride was felt deeply around the room as we farewelled our eldest pupils and waved them off on study leave. Thankful to all who work hard to get them to this stage of ...their journey, be it with school fees, dirty sports kits or help in the classroom, you could see how grateful the cohort were, sharing their day with loved ones. Good luck one and all - you'll go far 🥹🥲🎓

Hot off the press! We mentioned Taylor in our collaborative creation post earlier this morning... We've just heard that Taylor has been contacted by Muddy Stilettos to say that his picture was selected for a runner up prize in the Postcards from Thailand Reader Treat being run by The Turquoise... Holiday Company!

Congratulations Taylor! We're so proud and look forward to what you're going to be creating next with your art bundle 🎨

Sir David Attenborough, you may no longer be able to play with Lego (ages 4-99) but we've given you our best view of the Devon countryside! Happy 100th birthday! #exeterschools #QuietSpaces #HappyBirthdayDavidAttenborough #lego #welcomeandserve

Here, we see the benefits not just of co-education in action, but also of having a junior school as a school within a school. Having our juniors in their own space grows confidence and security but when they want to venture out and collaborate with senior school pupils, as this Creative ...Collaboration Club did, they thrive.

In this week's club, Lower Two and Upper Two (Y5-6) are working with seniors on competition entries, combining art and writing in celebration of the natural world, through a creation of the child's own invention. Darcy, now in Fourth Form (Y8), having been through junior school himself, shows some amazing work with Taylor from Upper Two (Y6).
